Hike 1 ... January 7, 2024
Our first hike of 2024 was a great one! The Eastatoe Passage of the Palmetto Trail. We hiked the passage to Keowee-Toxaway State Park and added both loops (Natural Bridge & Raven Rock). The weather started out chilly but warmed up throughout the day with the beautiful sunshine. It hardly felt like January weather. The trails were very scenic, well maintained & marked, and was especially happy to see the bridge at the crossing of Poe Creek near Middle Falls. I’d rate the route as moderate due to the length & elevation gain.
Other notes … met a guy barefoot hiking (no socks or shoes) along Natural Bridge trail - that was a first but definitely peeked my interest. Color changing fungi, multiple cascades, and the ridge views! And the view from Raven Rock is always a win! The two bridges were awesome & Sally did great going across them!
What other passages of the Palmetto Trail do you recommend Sally & I do?
